KC GOOD CITIZEN
|
The Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme was founded in 1992. Its aim is to promote responsible dog ownership by providing a quality standard of training that results in dogs and owners who are confident and equipped to handle a range of everyday life situations.
The scheme is open to all dogs, be they young, old, pedigree or crossbreed and is suitable for all owners, whatever their level of fitness or disability. It is a non-competitive program consisting of 4 levels, namely Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level develops the owner's understanding whilst building the dog's confidence and level of obedience and culminates in a short test, which must be passed before the next level can be begun. The course typically consists of 6-8 weeks of 45 minute classes (one per week), although the higher levels may sometimes need to be longer. See the sections below for more details of what each level involves. |
