GREYHOUNDS
Saturday Morning - Alternate weeks only!
See our timetable for more details.
Here at Billericay Dog Training Centre we hold specific classes for Greyhounds and Lurchers where we adapt the normal Obedience exercises to suit this unique and gentle breed, as we understand that they often require a sensitive approach to training.
Training enhances a dog's life by providing stimulation for both brain and body. Doing it in a dedicated class environment also provides socialisation, which is especially important for Greyhounds as they tend to have lived a very sheltered life in racing kennels and can therefore be uncomfortable around other breeds. |

Ours is the only Greyhound and Lurcher Obedience training class in the area and, as such, we have people who travel to our classes from as far away as London. Some people attend primarily for the socialisation, but others use the class as a stepping stone to other activities, such as Agility or the Kennel Club Good Citizen award scheme. We also see people returning time and again as they adopt new hounds in need of training, which is a big joy for us.
Perhaps our biggest delight, though, is seeing how all the hounds, young, old, confident or nervous take on board what we teach them and learn to adapt to life outside of racing and the big new world around them. We even have one very special boy, Max, who returned to class after a diagnosis of Cancer saw him have to have his leg amputated. After a short period of adjustment he picked up where he'd left off and still enjoys participating in our exercises with just three legs! (See left.) Many people believe when they adopt an ex-racing greyhound that they need a quiet, sheltered life in order to enjoy their 'retirement', but in fact most of them thoroughly enjoy the stimulation of learning new activites. Why not bring your hound to join our class and see for yourself? Get in touch today for more details. |
