With the cost of vet visits continuing to rise year on year, many dogs owners now choose to treat smaller incidents and injuries at home. And in more serious situations, of course, being able to provide immediate first aid (before calling/visiting the vet) could be the difference between life and death.
But where do you start? … Is it safe to use over-the-counter human lotions and potions, or do you need to stock up on proper veterinary products? … And, if the worst should happen, exactly how do you perform CPR on a dog? … These are just some of the subjects that are covered by the Canine First Aid Course that we host here at BDTC.

Presenting the course is Melanie Whitten from The Canine First Aid Company. Melanie has vast experience, both in providing on the spot first aid in a crisis as well as in running fun, interactive training days to pass her knowledge on to others. Alongside written and oral instruction, she brings a range of stuffed dogs and several, fully operational CPR models, that attendees can use for hands on practice.
See the boxes below for more details of what the course entails, along with testimonials from a few of our clients who have already completed the course. |

"The course was very informative and covered a wide range of topics that could crop up with our dogs in everyday situations. Highly recommended." - Lindsay Monksfield
"It was well designed to equip us for dealing with accidents with our dogs. The trainer covered many plausible scenarios involving our dogs. I feel confident that I could aid my dog if there was a problem out on our walks." - Jill Kitchen
"It was very good. I'd recommend it. I feel confident that I could now look after all our lovely doggies if the need arose." - Clare Andrews
"I did the Accreditation Course and I'd definitely recommend it to others. The instructor, Melanie, was a really good speaker, holding our interest through the whole day. But the best part was that we got to be hands on as we learnt. I hope I never have to use the things I learned, but if I do I’ll feel a lot more confident having practiced them before." - Helen Small
